IVL Techniques for Calcium Treatment
Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) is an advanced technique used to treat calcified plaques in the arteries, which can restrict blood flow and complicate procedures like angioplasty. IVL works by delivering controlled sound waves (ultrasound) through a specialized catheter to the calcified area. These sound waves create microfractures in the calcium, softening it without damaging surrounding tissues. This allows the artery to be more easily expanded using a balloon or stent during angioplasty. IVL is particularly effective for severe arterial calcifications and improves the success of revascularization procedures, especially in coronary and peripheral arteries.
